Is Prayer Your Default?

Reading for April 28th: 2 Kings 20-22
Weekly reading for April 26-May 2: Acts 11-15

When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.
Acts 12:12

When Peter finally realized he was not dreaming, that he had been freed from prison by an angel, where did he go? He went to Mary's house. Why did he go there? What did he assume they would be doing? He went to Mary's house because he knew there would be saints there and that they would be praying for him.

Is prayer a given for you? When you go through a crisis in life, is that your default response? Do you and your spouse pray often? Is prayer something your children expect? Or is prayer uncommon and infrequent? Is prayer an afterthought, rather than an integral part of your life?

Prayer can be found so often in the life of Jesus and it seems to be a fixture in the life of the early church. If we're not praying, then we're not following their example. Worse still, if we're not praying, we're fighting in this battle against the devil without God.

Father, help us to trust in and depend on You more and more by bringing our burdens before Your throne every day.
