An Appointment We Must All Keep
Title: An Appointment We Must All Keep
Reading for December 20: Hebrews 9-10
...it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment...
Hebrews 9:27
Did you know that over 150,000 people die in the world every day?
Death is a universal problem. Its presence is everywhere. It happens on every continent, in every culture, to every class and race.
It happens in developing nations and in wealthy nations. It happens to both the literate and the illiterate. It happens to those who have good health care, and to those with no health care. It happens to those who follow a strict exercise regimen and to those who sit on the couch and watch TV all day.
Diet does not change this reality. It happens to vegetarians and meat eaters alike; to those who eat a low-fat, gluten-free, high-fiber, count every calorie diet... and to those who eat whatever they want.
Death happens to those who have a lot of stress and to those who live stress free. It happens to those who sleep four hours a night and to those who get a full eight hours. It happens to diabetics and non-diabetics alike.
Republicans and Democrats; strong and weak; those in debt and those who are debt free; famous and to those who live their lives in obscurity; church-goers and non-church-goers; to those who pray every day and those who don't; believers and atheists.
No matter who we are, where we live, or how we live...
...death is one appointment we must all keep.
Are you ready?
Father, help us to live each day as if it were our last!
