When You Have Doubt

Reading for April 13th: 1 Kings 3-5
Weekly reading for April 12-18: Acts 1-5

"This Jesus God raised up, and of that we are all witnesses."
Acts 2:32

Do you ever doubt? Ever lie awake at night and wonder if this is all a big lie? Ever wonder if you're missing out on something because you've "sold all" for a fraud of a Savior? Ever think about your death and wonder if you will really see the Lord in glory?

If we're honest, I think we'd admit to having doubts. It happens to me. What do I do when those poisonous thoughts creep into my head? I go back to the foundation of my faith: the resurrection of Jesus Christ!

You can't help but be impressed when you see the emphasis the apostles placed on the resurrection as you read through Acts. They were chosen as apostles because they were eyewitnesses (1:8, 21-22). In almost every recorded sermon the resurrection is proclaimed (2:32; 3:15; 4:10, 33; 5:31; 10:40; 13:30; 17:31; 22:8).

The resurrection was not just wishful thinking to them. It was real! They saw Him, touched Him, ate with Him. Why else would they be so willing to take up their own crosses and suffer with their Lord? They were rejected, scorned, beaten, thrown in prison, and put to death. When threatened to stop preaching about Jesus they would simply reply, "we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard!" (Acts 4:20).

So, when I have times of doubt, I go back and plant my feet on this solid ground. I can trust the apostles. They knew what they saw and their testimony is sealed in blood.

Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!
