An Appointment We Must All Keep

Reading for September 29th: Zechariah 1-7
Weekly reading for September 27-October 3: Hebrews 6-9

...it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment...
Hebrews 9:27

Did you know that over 150,000 people die in the world every day?

Death is a universal problem. It happens on every continent, in every culture, and to every class and race.

It happens in prosperous nations as well as in developing countries. It happens to both the literate and the illiterate. It happens to those with good health care, and to those without health care. It happens to those who exercise and to couch potatoes.

Diet does not help us avoid death. It happens to vegetarians and to meat eaters. It happens to those who consume a low-fat, gluten-free, high-fiber, count every calorie diet... and to those who eat whatever they want.

Death happens to those who are stressed out and to those who enjoy a stress free life. It happens to those who get lots of sleep as well as those who are sleep deprived. It happens to diabetics and non-diabetics alike.

It doesn't matter if you are a Republican, Democrat, or independent. It matters not if you are strong or weak; famous or obscure; popular or unpopular; deep in debt or debt-free; black or white; tall or short; male or female; skinny or fat; a believer or an atheist...

No matter who we are, where we live, or how we live, death is one appointment we must all keep.

Are you ready?

Father, help me to live every day as if it were my last!
