The Dreamer

Reading for January 12th: Genesis 35-37

They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer. Come now, let us kill him..."
Genesis 37:19-20

What was Joseph's crime? Why did his brothers want to kill him?

He had a dream.

What was Jesus' crime? Why did His people want to kill Him?

He also had a dream.

Joseph's dreams came true. His brothers did come to Egypt and bowed down to Joseph after he had been promoted to second in command of all Egypt. But before Joseph was promoted to this lofty position, he suffered and had to endure numerous injustices.

Jesus' dream came true as well. Jesus was raised from the dead and ascended to sit down on the right hand of the Father in heaven. But before this could happen, Jesus had to endure injustice as well. He was sold for 30 pieces of silver, falsely accused of blasphemy, and then nailed to a tree.

And just as all of the bad things that happened to Joseph led to the salvation of his family, Jesus saved us through his suffering on the cross.

Father, thank You for offering your Son to die so that we might live. We bow down before him!
