 If God Is For Us...

Reading for February 22:  Deuteronomy 3-4
Weekly reading for February 18-24:  Romans 6-10

Title:  If God Is For Us...

What shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31

Prosperity preachers would have you believe that suffering has no part in the Christian life. "God gives the very best to his children," they say. "God will put a hedge of protection around us so that nothing can harm us."

However, the Bible tells us that opposition most certainly is a part of the Christian life. We must through "many tribulations" enter the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22). Jesus told us to expect suffering (John 15:18-20).

No, Romans 8:31 is not promising the Christian a life free from opposition. What it is saying is that if God is for us, WHAT DOES IT MATTER IF SOMEONE IS AGAINST US!  We're on God's side! The Almighty is ready for battle and we're in his camp. Victory is certain! Defeat should never even enter our minds! God always wins!

God never guaranteed an easy life to his children. He never promised to remove harm or danger. What he did is promise to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). And he has promised that all things will work together for good (Romans 8:28).

I love you, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 18:1-3
