Redeeming the Time

Reading for March 10:  Joshua 18-20
Weekly reading for March 4-10:  Ephesians 1-6

Title:  Redeeming the Time

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16

The word translated "time" in this text is the Greek word kairos. This word means "opportunity," "season," or "fitting time." Another Greek word for time was chronos. Chronos would be used by the ancient Greek speakers for a sequence of moments (a duration of time). An appointed time or season would be expressed by kairos.

So, the way we should think about this instruction should be in terms of seasons in our life, not what I'm going to do today for lunch. Our lives are not just made up of weeks, days, or hours. Our lives consist of seasons where we are presented with unique opportunities based on our physical abilities, experience, circumstances, etc.

Take a moment today to think about what season you are in right now. What are some opportunities do you have in your life that might not be around for much longer?

Father, give a sense of perspective about the brevity of our days. May we use the strength of our youth, the wisdom of our age, our position at work, our time with our kids, or whatever opportunities are unique to our life right now to your glory.
