Have You Ever Prayed All Night?

Title:  Have You Ever Prayed All Night?

Reading for April 3:  2 Samuel 8-12
Weekly reading for April 1-7:  Luke 5-9

In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
Luke 6:12

How can you stay up all night in prayer?

First of all, prayer is not always verbal. David prayed, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight." (Psalm 19:14)  Sometimes our most fervent prayers are when we are engaged in serious thought about God and His purposes.

But there is a more obvious way we can pray all night, and that is to give thanks. I heard someone say this (and it makes perfect sense to me), but how could we ever run out of thanksgivings to God?

Consider all the blessings we enjoy in Christ! Read Ephesians 1:3-14. Read it slowly. Meditate on each phrase. This is what God has done for you. Let that thought wash over you and cause you to rejoice in overflowing praise to God!

Then think about the numerous individuals who have been a godly influence in your life. Make a list of your heroes. Think of specific ways each person has made you better. Make the list as lengthy and expansive as possible, and see if your heart is not lit up with praise and thanksgiving to God.

It might even take you all night...

Father, how can we thank you for all you’ve done for us?
