Hope in a Dark Place

Title: Hope in a Dark Place Reading for September 29: Zechariah 11-14 On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness. Zechariah 13:1 Are you as distressed about the state of the country as I am? We are bombarded daily by stories of injustice, corruption, abuse of power, dishonesty, and immorality. Our hearts grieve over the broken homes and broken lives we see all around us. The world seems to be only getting worse by the day. A dark cloud of evil seems to be enveloping all that was once good and true. It is in times like these that we can find comfort in the prophets. Zechariah assures us that God is still our God and that in his kingdom there is faithfulness and righteousness (8:8). He dwells in our midst and so we have no reason to fear (2:10-11; 8:12-13; 14:11). He gives us a picture of old men and old women sitting in the streets and children playing in the streets without care or concern (8:4-5). In this place there is no night but only the brightness of day (14:6-7). Living waters will come from an open fountain that flows for all (13:1; 14:8). I like to think about this place. Maybe I should watch less news and read a more from the prophets. Lord, come quickly!
