Disrespect

Title:  Disrespect

Reading for May 14:  2 Chronicles 25-28

But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the LORD his God and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. Disrespect...

To many, it's the greatest sin. Every other sin can be forgiven, but if someone disrespects (or "disses") them, that is unforgivable. Why?

It's because we are idolaters... only we do not worship idols made of wood or stone. We worship ourselves! When someone attacks our reputation or does something to diminish the honor we feel is due, that is considered blaspheme against our god. They have profaned our idol. They've attacked what we hold most dear. It's the unforgivable sin.

Here's a test... When you are challenged in some way, what is your first reaction? Do you consider the fact that you could be wrong? Does the thought even cross your mind? Or is your automatic reaction one of anger and/or resentment?

Father, forgive us for our carnal pride. Help us to give our idolatry up. Help us to crucify self.
