Eager to Receive the Word
Reading for May 6th: 1 Chronicles 15-17
Weekly reading for May 3-9: Acts 16-19
Now these Jews were noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Acts 17:11

When many Christians think about Bible study, words like "daily" and "eager" do not come to mind. Bible study is a chore. It is a duty that is done only when necessary or when guilted into it.
I used to be a pretty consistent runner. I would go out at least three times a week and exercise. It was not enjoyable, but it became something I loved because of what it did for me. I've recently recommitted myself to running hoping I can recapture some of the joys of running, but it's not all that enjoyable right now.
I think that is the way it is with Bible study. It is not always easy. Like exercise we have to work at it to see any results. But when we discover something that really helps change our lives or strengthens our faith in some meaningful way, then Bible study not only becomes something we do "daily" and with "eagerness."
