The Highest Motive for Good
Reading for September 28th: Haggai 1-2
Weekly reading for September 27-October 3: Hebrews 6-9
For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.
Hebrews 6:10
Do you ever feel unappreciated? That's a silly question, of course. There are times when we all feel like we're not properly recognized for what we do. And sometimes this is more than just our perception. Sometimes we really are taken for granted.
However, what this verse tells us is that God notices every good work we do. He sees every act of kindness, every act of service, every demonstration of mercy to others. No matter how big or small, God sees it all. He appreciates and rejoices in the love we share.
The challenge is training our heart to find full satisfaction in that. Why are we so concerned what others say about us? Is it not enough to know that we put a smile on God's face? Is his pleasure in us not enough for us, or is human approval our primary motivation for the good we do?
Father God, we don't know why you notice us. We're so small and so insignificant. We are nothing. And yet you do notice us and rejoice in the good we do. Help us to make Your pleasure our highest motive.
