God is Love
Reading for November 29th: 1 Corinthians 1-4
Weekly reading for November 29-December 5: 1 John 1-5
God is love.
1 John 4:8
Love is one of the primary characteristics of God. To know what this means, you can look at the description of what love does and is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
Love is patient. "The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love..." Numbers 14:18
Love is kind. "so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:7
Love does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant or rude. "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant... he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:5-8
Love does not insist on its own way. "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart..." Matthew 11:29
Love is not irritable or resentful. "Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here, and see my hands... Do not disbelieve, but believe." John 20:27
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. "And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." Luke 15:20
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. "The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." 1 Timothy 1:15
To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:17
