Spoiler Alert . . . God Wins!

Reading for December 25th: 2 John-Jude
Weekly reading for December 20-26: Revelation 12-16

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.

And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire--and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb...
Revelation 15:1-3

I think DVR is perhaps the greatest invention to ever be given to me as a sports fan. I can take a four hour football game and condense it down to less than two hours. It's great! No commercials. I can fast forward through agonizing booth reviews and other annoying timeouts. I'm simply not investing as much of my time in the game.

However, the one draw back to watching a game this way is that you can find out what the final score is and the drama is taken out of it, and though most of the time I really don't care, there are some games where I do very much care what the outcome is. (Like when my Auburn Tigers are playing!)

So, what do I do when I inadvertently find out who one in the Auburn game? Well, it depends on whether I find out if they won. If they lost, I probably won't watch the game (and I still haven't watched the Iron Bowl from this year). If they won, it's not as exciting, but I will watch and savor the victory. In fact, it's kind of funny how you have an odd pleasure in watching a game you really care about (like the Iron Bowl) when you know your team has already won. They can fall behind (even far behind) and you don't sweat it because you know they've won. In fact, it's kind of fun when you see your team losing because you know it's going to lead to an even more glorious victory.

That's the position we find ourselves in this cosmic drama involving God and the good guys and the devil and the forces of evil. We know who wins! And so, we can calmly live our lives with the assurance that though the devil will win occasional battles, in the end God will win the war.

Father, thank you showing us in Revelation who wins! And remind us every day that we are the victors!
