God's View of Evangelism
Reading for March 28th: 1 Samuel 4-8
And the LORD said to Samuel, "Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them."
1 Samuel 8:7
How do you view evangelism?
It is important that we do not see evangelism from a personal point of view but from God's perspective. As a preacher I tend measure my work by baptisms. If I'm baptizing a lot of folks, I'm doing my job. If I'm not baptizing a lot of people, I'm a failure.
However, Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel (1 Cor 1:17). God does not evaluate my work based on baptisms, but by how faithful I have been to deliver the message to lost souls.
This point of view takes the pressure off. If I study with someone and they reject the gospel, I can still feel satisfied in my work. I have not failed when this happens. I've done what the Lord sent me to do.
Success is not defined by the number of baptisms but by faithfulness to the message preached. If I preach the gospel, I'm doing my job. If I preach the gospel, I'm pleasing to God.
In the end, evangelism is not about us. It's not about whether our audience likes US or what WE have to say to them. It's whether they will accept or reject the Lord. Our job is to simply give them that opportunity.
Father, help us to see the process of evangelism from your point of view.
