Why We Fail to Listen to God
Reading for April 22nd: 2 Kings 4-5
But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, "Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper."
2 Kings 5:11
Naaman came to Elisha wanting to be healed. He was told to wash in the river Jordan seven times and he would be clean.
This remedy offended Naaman. He left Elisha in anger. Notice from our text the first three words out of his mouth: "Behold, I thought..." These words reveal the principle reason why we fail to listen to God's wisdom.
The Lord tells us how we should respond to our enemy, but it seems silly to us and we go away saying, "Behold, I thought..."
God reveals his plan for the church, but it doesn't make sense to us and we go away saying, "Behold, I thought..."
Jesus gives us the remedy for sin, but it seems foolish to us and so we walk away from the Lord saying, "Behold, I thought..."
You get the idea. So, where in your personal life are you thinking too much? Do you doubt what God has told you?
Father help us to remove anger from our hearts and receive with meekness the implanted word that is able to save our souls.
