An Evangelistic Psalm
Reading for July 16th: Psalms 96-102
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100:1-5
This psalm is an invitation for the whole earth ("all ye lands" KJV) to worship and give thanks to Jehovah. As such, this is an evangelistic hymn. It has occurred to me that this is our purpose in life. We are to glorify God and to encourage others to do the same (1 Pet 2:9, 12)
Consider our purpose as expressed in this psalm:
- We are to call people to serve Jehovah with gladness.
- We are to encourage our friends and neighbors to approach God with singing.
- We are to help people to see that our God is God, that he made us and thus we are his possession.
- We are to inspire others to praise and thanksgiving, blessing his name.
That's a high and noble goal to set for the day. How can I help others to see the LORD today and to be thankful to him?
Father, glorify your name in all the earth! May we all have a small part in glorifying your name!
