What Is Life All About?

Reading for August 6th: Isaiah 42-44

"everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
    whom I formed and made."
Isaiah 43:7

Why am I here? What is my life all about? Is there a purpose? If so, what is it?

The creation of man is one of the single most important truths in the Bible. The implications of this truth are profound. If we are created beings, and not merely the product of a blind evolutionary process, then we necessarily have a purpose for being alive. Every inventor or creator has a reason to invent or create something.

We have a Creator and his name is God, and he had a purpose for creating each and every one of us. He made us in his image, which means a lot of things. It means that we were given an immortal soul. It means that we were made with the capacity to feel and to think just as he feels and thinks. It means we have the ability to make choices. Add that all up and what it means is we were made for a relationship with God.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29

Let this thought simmer in your mind as you start your day. Meditate on it throughout your day. You are not a random and purposeless collection of atoms. You are made in the image of God! You have a purpose! You have a destiny! You were made to be God's child!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
