How To Be a Fisher of Men
Reading for October 15th: Mark 1-3
"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Mark 1:17
How do we become fishers of men?
Simple. Jesus gave us the answer. We follow him.
Following Jesus means having the same passion for the lost that he had. Following Jesus means living life with your heart wide open. It means radical, risky, sacrificial, cross-centered living.
Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. And look where Jesus' mission led him. It led him to the cross. Jesus didn't make a token contribution to save the lost. He gave up his life! HIS LIFE! Are you sure you want to sign up for this?
This is not a hobby. It's not something we do twice a year when a big event at church rolls around. It's not an every now and then kind of thing. It's a way of life. It's a mentality. To Jesus, there were times He couldn't even think about food (see John 4:31-38). It takes that kind of laser-like focus to be a fisher of men.
Do you really want to be a fisher of men? Then follow the Master. Follow him to school. Follow Him to the supermarket. Follow him to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Follow him to the soccer field, to the library, or to the water cooler at work. You'll be looking at others like you never have before. You'll be loving others like you never have before. You'll be living a new life dedicated to liberating and saving the demon-possessed, the lepers, the blind, the lame, the sick, and the dead.
And your life will never be the same.
Father, help us to truly follow your Son by looking for those who are desperately searching for you!
