Faith to Forgive
Reading for October 31st: Luke 17-18
"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"
Luke 17:3-5
Why do we need faith to forgive?
Forgiveness is not easy. It may be the most difficult thing we're called on to do by our Lord.
Forgiveness is when we release from a debt. It is when we give up our right to revenge. It makes us vulnerable. It exposes us to more hurt and abuse.
So, forgiveness is hard. It requires faith. But, Jesus said if we have true faith, even if it is as small as a mustard seed, that mountains can be moved.
Father, increase our faith!
