A Mighty Man of Valor
Reading for March 15th: Judges 6-7
Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor."
Judges 6:11-12
The Lord could see something in Gideon that he couldn't see in himself. According to Gideon, he was from the weakest clan in Manasseh and he was the weakest in his father's house (Judges 6:15). But the Lord saw a "mighty man of valor."
How do you see yourself? When you look in a mirror, what do you see? Perhaps you've allowed your circumstances, your physical limitations, your family history, your past sins, or your physical characteristics (height, weight, skin color) to define you. Maybe you've allowed the perceptions of those around you to define who you are.
Understand that none of those things matter. The only one who has a right to say what you can and cannot do is the one who made you. And he doesn't make junk!
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:13-14
Don't let what you see in the mirror or what others see in you hold you back from being all God created you to be. The question is not what you see in yourself. The question should always be what the Lord sees in you.
Father, help us to live this day and every day in the strength that you supply!
