King David's Focus
Reading for May 3rd: 1 Chronicles 13-16
"Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul."
1 Chronicles 13:3
If we were writing the history of David's reign as king, it probably would have been different than what we have in the book of Chronicles. We would tell about his battles, the economy, etc.
The Chronicles, though, spend more time on David's overseeing the spiritual needs of the nations than Israel's domestic or foreign policy. Chapters 13, 15, and 16 are devoted to David bringing the ark into Jerusalem. Chapters 22-26 and 28-29 are mostly devoted to David's preparations for the temple. That's ten whole chapters!
The historian and David both knew what mattered most. They knew that the key to success in the kingdom was faithfulness to God.
Father, we want you to be in the center of our lives. We will put nothing ahead of you.
