The Priority of Worship
Reading for May 6th: 1 Chronicles 24-26
David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who prophesied with lyres, with harps, and with cymbals.
1 Chronicles 25:1
Chapter 25 begins with a list of musicians. There are no less than 31 verses devoted to musicians.
Musicians?
Yes, musicians are given a whole chapter in the book of 1st Chronicles. Compare that to chapters chronicling the military divisions and the mighty men and you'll see that it is similar in numbers. Why are so many verses devoted to musicians?
It's because the historian understood the importance of the worship of God. It didn't matter how many mighty men David had, how many chariots, horses, or soldiers, if they didn't worship God properly then they would lose against their enemies.
So, what does this say to you and me? It says that worship matters. We can spend a lot of time in worthless activity and forget that worship is the key to our success.
Father, help us to see the priority of worship in our lives.
