Results Based Evangelism Is Not Evangelism
Reading for May 12th: 2 Chronicles 17-20
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil."
2 Chronicles 18:7
Let's face it. Not everyone has a love for truth.
We often beat ourselves up because of meager results. We second guess ourselves. We wonder whether we could have presented it in a better way. But often it has nothing to do with us. It comes down to the fact that our audience is not rejecting us but God (1 Samuel 8:7).
Let this devotion today be a reminder to you that your job is not to be liked. Look at the great men and women of faith in the Bible. Did everybody like them? "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Gal 1:10)
Our job is not to win popularity contests. Our job is to save souls.
Father, defeat all selfish vanity in us that would silence us. Give us a heart of love and compassion that will drive us to speak the truth.
