Two Characteristics of True Evangelists
Reading for June 17th: Psalms 69-72
But I will hope continually
and will praise you yet more and more.
My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for their number is past my knowledge.
With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.
Psalm 71:14-16
A true evangelist (and this is my definition) is someone who seems to effortlessly tell others about the Lord. It does not seem forced or fabricated because it isn't. The Lord is always on their lips.
Every true evangelist I've ever been around is different. They have different personalities and temperaments. Some are outspoken while others are more reserved. Some are fiery and passionate, while others are more laid back and chill. Some are more analytical and calculating while others do little planning and just throw themselves at opportunities.
They use different methods and techniques. No too are the same in this regard. They've all tried different methods and they use what works for them.
However, there are two characteristics that I've noticed that all true evangelists have in common:
1. They are always thinking about evangelism. They don't just see people as people. They see them as souls who are either saved or lost. And they desperately want everyone to be saved.
2. They are profoundly thankful for what they have in the Lord. They wish that everyone could share in what they have in Christ Jesus.
Father, create in me the heart of a true evangelist!
