A God of Reversals
Reading for June 27th: Psalms 120-133
Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.
Psalm 126:5-6
Our God is a God of reversals. Our God enjoys taking those whose hearts have been broken, whose lives have been destroyed, and whose spirits have been crushed, and blessing them with new life.
Our God has a heart for the humble.
Listen to these words from our Savior:
- “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
- “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.
- “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
- “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. (Luke 6:20-23)
If you are poor, hungry, weeping, or hated, know that Jesus can turn all of that around. He can make your heart rejoice. He can turn your tears to laughter. He can fill you and make you rich with wealth that is reserved for you in heaven.
Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up!
Father, thank you for our hope in Christ Jesus!
