Principle or Passion
Reading for July 6th: Proverbs 21-23
Make no friendship with a man given to anger,
nor go with a wrathful man,
lest you learn his ways
and entangle yourself in a snare.
Proverbs 22:24-25
Principle or passion? Every minute of every day we choose one or the other.
If we choose to live by passion, then we give full vent to whatever we feel inside. Fueled by passion alone with no guiding principles to hold those passions in check, we do or say what our emotions tell us to do.
If we choose to live by principle, then we will control our emotions. We will choose forgiveness over revenge. We will choose to listen rather than argue and yell. We will weigh offenses and seek to correct only those that need correction.
A decision to live by principle is a conscious choice we make every day. It is a daily decision to deny selfish emotions to be guided by the principles of God's Word.
So, how will you be guided today? Principle or passion?
Father, thank you for the freedom of choice. Give us the strength to choose your will over ours.
