Does God Not See Us?
Reading for July 22nd: Isaiah 29-31
Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel,
whose deeds are in the dark,
and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?"
Isaiah 29:15
Do we think God can't see?
Do we think that God is just there with us on Sunday (at the church building) and that he's not aware of what we're doing the rest of the week (and away from the church building)?
Our text in Isaiah 29:15 is right after the Lord condemned his people for drawing near with their mouths and honoring him with their lips but their hearts were far from Him.
Sounds like us, right? We sing God's praise at church and pray to him at church and talk about God at church, but the true feelings of our hearts come out in the way we live the rest of the week.
If this is you, let me suggest a couple of things:
- Make worship an everyday thing, not just a Sunday thing. Live in God's presence every day.
- Stop lying. This kind of hypocrisy is most obnoxious to God. God is not pleased with our lifeless Sunday ritual (Isa 1:12-17).
Father, may we never forget your watchful eye. Forgive us.
