A Rescue Mission

Reading for October 28th: Luke 19-20

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."
Luke 19:10

I had a friend who served in Vietnam as a medic who would fly into enemy territory to rescue wounded soldiers. This was obviously an extremely dangerous job she had, but she bravely did it in order to seek and to save the lost.

How does what she did compare to what Jesus did for us? It compares well. Jesus came into enemy territory to save us. He rescued us while we were hopelessly lost and dying. But there are two compelling differences:

1. Jesus came to save his enemies, not his friends.

2. Jesus willingly gave his life (and we took it from him) in order to save ours.

"...while we were enemies we were reconciled by the death of his Son..." Romans 5:10

Father, thank you for sending your Son to seek and to save us!
