Title: One of a Kind
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them...
Romans 12:6
You are one of a kind.
God has made each one of us distinctively different. I’m told that every single person has a different fingerprint. Out of the billions of people on this earth, your fingerprint is unique.
Not only are you physically different, you are unique in your personality and disposition and talents as well. No one else on earth is quite like you. These are the gifts Paul refers to here. Our gifts all differ according to the grace given to us. And Paul tells us here that we were made the way we are with Divine purpose. God intends for us to use our gifts.
The problem is our pride gets in the way of God’s purposes for us. We turn up our noses at opportunities that might seem beneath us. Paul cautioned that one should "not think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned." (Romans 12:3) Pride prevents us from being used by God to the fullest of our potential.
Read the rest of Romans 12. Pay special attention to the significance Paul places on simple things like hospitality and kindness. These are not the things that draw a lot of praise from men, but these are the sacrifices of praise that are pleasing to God.
There are lots of little things we can do every day, lots of things that we have been uniquely gifted by God to do. Read this chapter and look for the little things you can do.
Thank you for the gifts you have given us, O God. Help us to be good stewards of them this day.
