In the Lord
Title: In the Lord
Reading for March 21: Ruth 1-4
Weekly reading for March 18-24: Philippians 1-4
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
Some time ago, Sewell pointed out to me how many times Paul mentions the name of Jesus or where he is referenced in Philippians. As I was reading from it this week I noticed how many blessings we have "in the Lord."
- We have peace (1:2).
- We have confidence (1:14).
- We have hope (2:19).
- We have faith (2:24).
- We have brethren (2:29).
- We have joy (3:1; 4:4).
- We have a firm foundation (4:1).
- We have unity (4:2).
- We have grace (4:23).
Go back over these references and see the context of each. Paul could have left out the "in the Lord" part and we would have thought nothing of it, but he wanted to direct our minds to the true source of all of these things. He wanted us to see that all we need is Christ. (And this is the heart of the letter - see chapter 3).
Meditate on these blessings and think about what would we be missing without the Lord in our lives.
Father, you have supplied all of our needs. Through Jesus Christ we have more than enough grace to sustain us through any trial we might encounter in this life!
