Balance or Focus?
Title: Balance or Focus?
Reading for March 31: 1 Samuel 28-31
Weekly reading for March 25-31: Luke 1-4
And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose."
Luke 4:42-43
How do you achieve balance in life? If you're like most people, you've got a list of things to do each day that is a mile long. How do you find balance when you're being pulled in a thousand different directions?
The answer may be simpler than you think. What if I told you that "balance" is not something we should strive for? What if I told you that Christ calls on us to bring simplicity, not balance to our lives?
Think about it, where does Jesus ever say, "If anyone would come after me, let him strive to make all of the pie pieces in his life equal?" Does Jesus want us to balance our lives or to crucify ourselves?
Jesus didn't live a life of balance. He lived a life with focus. That meant he often said "No." He simplified life by only doing those things that aided in accomplishing his mission. He calls on us to do the same.
Father, help us to redeem the time and to sacrifice all by living a life of purpose today for you.
