Title: Jesus Searched Through the Garbage and Found Me!
Reading for April 17: 1 Kings 21-22
Weekly reading for April 15-21: Luke 15-19
Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?
Luke 15:8
Have you heard about the New York City parks worker who found a woman's lost wedding ring?
Danielle Carroll lost her ring near New York's Battery Park, where she was teaching a painting class. She accidently threw away her wedding ring in the trash and didn't realize it until the next morning.
She and her husband drove to Battery Park, but the trash container had already been emptied. They saw a garbage truck nearby but nobody was inside. They left a note explaining how they believed the wedding ring was in that truck.
Gary Gaddist found the note later that morning and he called Danielle. He went to Randall's Island and showed the note to the managers of the landfill. They said, "If you want to look for a needle in a haystack, go ahead."
It didn't take long. Gary found the trash bag and the ring inside it. Needless to say, he got a big hug and a kiss on the cheek from Danielle.
Who did I think about when I read this story? Of course... Jesus!
The Son of God came to this nasty landfill filled with smelly garbage to look for me. And Jesus didn't just come wade into the cesspool of sin; He became sin so that we might become righteous (2 Cor 5:21).
Is it for me, dear Savior,
Thy glory and Thy rest,
For me, so weak and sinful?
O shall I be so blessed?
O Savior, my Redeemer,
What can I but adore,
And magnify and praise Thee,
And love Thee evermore?
