Excuses to Not Evangelize
Title: Excuses to Not Evangelize
Reading for May 17: 2 Chronicles 35-36
Weekly reading for May 13-19: Acts 11-15
But Jews came from Antioch and Iconic, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.
Acts 14:19-20
When it comes to evangelism, we have a lot of handy excuses.
- "I don't have time."
- "Nobody is interested."
- "They might ask something I can't answer."
- "I'm afraid."
I know all of these excuses because I've made them myself. But there's also something else I know, and that is that they are all lies.
- The fact is we do have time, we're just lazy.
- And it doesn't matter whether anyone is interested or not, our job is to tell others about Jesus.
- We probably will be asked some things that are beyond our ability to answer. However, we don't have to know the answer to every question (no one does!), we just have to tell what we do know.
- And finally, when we say we're afraid, what we're really saying is we care more about what people think about us than what people think about Jesus.
So, whatever is keeping you from talking with that person you've meant to talk to, GET OVER IT AND GO TALK TO THEM!
Paul was stoned and left for dead. Did he let that stop him? What's keeping you from talking to your neighbor about Jesus?
Father, grant us courage that we might tell others about Your Son!
