Examine Yourself
Title: Examine Yourself
Reading for July 21: Isaiah 20-24
Weekly reading for July 15-21: 2 Corinthians 10-13
Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Whenever you're on a diet it is really important to regularly weigh yourself. Why? Because the scale doesn't lie! If you eat too much, the scale will let you know!
What Paul is exhorting us to do in this verse is to get on the spiritual scale on a regular basis. We need to weigh ourselves spiritually to see if we're growing as we ought.
What is the spiritual scale? Paul tells us in the rest of the verse, "Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?" Jesus is the standard of all spiritual measurements. We are to grow until we reach "the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:13)
How do we know if we measure up? We look into the mirror of God's Word to see ourselves as we really are.
Father, help us to see ourselves as you see us. Help us to see Jesus more clearly in your Word and to make real changes in our life to become more like him.
