Title: Peacemakers
Reading for July 29: Isaiah 47-
Weekly reading for July 29-August 4: Matthew 5-9
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
Matthew 5:9
The promise given to peacemakers is that "they shall be called sons of God." The reason for this promise to peacemakers is that they resemble their Father when they make peace.
Peacemaking is an active thing, not passive. There's more to being a peacemaker than just passively sitting back away from the conflict trying not to cause problems. Peacemakers take risks. They get involved. They step into the line of fire. They do whatever it takes to bring those who are at odds together.
This can clearly be seen in what the Father and our Savior did to create peace for us. "For he himself is our peace, who has made both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility" (Ephesians 2:14). Indeed, creating peace was costly. It cost Jesus his life.
What an example for us! Lest we think that we can just play it safe and not get involved when our friends, family members, and/or brethren are fighting, all we have to do is look at the cross and remember what the Savior did for us.
Thank you, Lord, for sacrificing everything to make peace for us!
