Draw Near
Title: Draw Near
Reading for October 13: Matthew 27-28
Weekly reading for October 7-13: Hebrews 1-5
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:15-16
Adrienne and I had the privilege of touring the White House several years back. Adrienne found out later that a friend of hers had a son in the Secret Service, and he could have given us much more access to the White House.
Imagine you knew someone really powerful with connections in the White House. What if you could even go into the Oval Office and meet the President himself?
Now, imagine that your friend was not just someone with access to the President, but was one of the President's children! What if your family would hang out with the First Family and you had his personal phone line and felt comfortable enough to call him any time you had a problem?
Do you realize you have this kind of access, not with the President of the United States, but with the Sovereign Lord and Creator of the Universe? You know his only Son and you have permission to enter his throne room any time you want! You can call on him 24/7 and he is willing and eager to hear from us!
That almost seems too good to be true, doesn't it?
But it is true!
Father, we thank you for the privilege and the honor to approach you in prayer! We are unworthy but you have welcomed us here because of what your Son did for us on the cross. We approach with gratitude and awe in our hearts!
