Stirring Up Love & Good Works
Title: Stirring Up Love & Good Works
Reading for October 23: Luke 3-4
Weekly reading for October 21-27: Hebrews 10-13
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Hebrews 10:24-25
It's easy to grow weary in doing good for others (Gal 6:9; Heb 13:16; 1 Pet 4:9). It's especially hard when we start to feel like the weight of caring for everyone else has fallen on our shoulders. When there's someone to be taken to the doctor, we're taking them. When someone needs food, we're cooking the meal and delivering it. When someone needs help with a bill, we're having to dig deep into our budgeted money for the month.
That's one of the reasons why our assemblies are so important. They provide the extra motivation we need to continue doing good. Our love for one another is stimulated as we read and study the Word together; as we are surrounded by examples of others who are demonstrating Christ's love; as we teach and admonish one another in songs, hymns, and spiritual songs; and, of course, as we gather around the Lord's table to remember his sacrifice for us.
Father, help us to stimulate love and good works in one another as we assemble together.
