The Truth We Already Know
Title: The Truth We Already Know
Reading for November 14: Acts 6-7
Weekly reading for November 11-17: 2 Peter & Jude
Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder...
2 Peter 1:12-13
Have you ever just kind of breezed through your daily reading because it's a passage you've studied or read several times already?
Have you ever found yourself tuning out a sermon because it's a topic you've already heard dozens of times?
Have you skipped over your Bible lesson because you are pretty sure you can wing it in class without preparation?
It's natural to feel this way. But it's also dangerous. In this letter, Peter tells his audience three times that he needed to remind them of these important truths (see also 2 Peter 3:1). It must be pretty important to review truth we already know.
Don't become lazy or prideful. As many times as you might read or study some text or subject, there is always more to learn. Besides, it's easy to forget the things we already know (2 Pet 1:9).
Father, help us to read or study from your Word today with with fresh eyes and open hearts. Give us a mind to read as if we've never read it before!
