A Covenant With Your Eyes
Title: A Covenant With Your Eyes
Reading for June 3: Job 31-34
"I have made a covenant with my eyes;
how then could I gaze at a virgin?"
Job 31:1
Here's a covenant I challenge everyone reading this to make: make a covenant with your eyes!
Three reasons to do this:
1. We can't lust after what we can't see. Jesus said, "everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28
2. Lust is the same as stealing. Paul said that when we commit adultery we "wrong" or "defraud" our brother (1 Thessalonians 4:6). When we look at a woman's nakedness (or whatever she reveals to us), we are stealing from her husband (or her future husband). Stealing is a sin. Don't do it.
3. Our eyes are given to us to glorify God. We don't have the right to use our eyes to selfishly please ourselves. We are to use our body (and every part of it) to glorify God (1 Corinthians 6:20). If we can't thank God for it, we shouldn't be looking at it!
So go ahead, make the vow right now!
Lord God, this week we promise to set no unclean thing before our eyes!
