Careful and Complete Obedience
Title: Careful and Complete Obedience
Reading for January 22: Exodus 21-23
"But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries."
Exodus 23:22
I would love for God to be an enemy to my enemies and an adversary to my adversaries. With God by my side I am indestructible. With God fighting for me I cannot lose.
But how do I get God by my side and fighting for me? We must become obedient. But not just any kind of obedience will do. God tells us our obedience must be...
- CAREFUL. "Carefully obey His voice."
- COMPLETE. "Do everything He says."
What does CAREFUL obedience mean? It means we diligently search for the will of God. This is not Pharisaism. It is not prideful. It is not hypocritical. It is not traditionalism. It is a sincere and earnest desire to do exactly and precisely what God wants.
What does COMPLETE obedience mean? It means we consistently seek to do God's will in every area of life. This is the opposite of compartmentalization where we segment out the parts we commit to God and the parts we keep for ourselves.
Father, give us such a heart as this that we will carefully do all you have commanded.
