Seeing God's Face
Title: Seeing God's Face
Reading for September 6: Ezekiel 39-40
"Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 39:28-29
My kids just moved off to school and it's been a big adjustment for us at home. But one of nice things about technology is that we can not only communicate by phone and messages back and forth whenever we want, we can actually see the kids face to face through video messaging apps.
Seeing someone face to face matters. The face communicates emotion. It reveals an individual's unique personality and character. It is in one's face that connection and acceptance is felt
But the reverse can also be true. When David prayed that God would "hide his face" from his sins (Psa 51:9), he was feeling rejection and judgment. He knew that God's eyes were too pure to look upon evil (Hab 1:13).
Thanks be to God, that though our sins had made God turn his face from us, the blood of Jesus Christ has made us clean before God's holy face (1 Cor 6:11). We do not have to fear God's face turning from us because now, in Christ Jesus, we have received the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).
Father, you have washed us so that we do not have to fear you turning your face from us! Blessed and honor and glory be to your name!
