What Happens After the "Amen?"
Title: What Happens After the "Amen?"
Reading for December 22: James 1-5
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
James 1:23-24
What happens after the Amen?
Ever heard one of those sermons that pierced your soul? Ever felt like the preacher was preaching right at you, like he had some inside information about what you are struggling with
What happens after sermons like that?
It's sad to say it, but sometimes we go from saying "Amen" on Sunday to doing the same thing we've always done on Monday.
This isn't a preacher lamenting the behavior of the congregation either. I'm guilty of this myself, and it's worse when you're the guy preaching it!
It's so easy to let the emotion of the moment to wane and to forget how bad we look in the mirror of God's Word. How can we change that?
Let me make just one suggestion: APPLY IMMEDIATELY! Don't leave the assembly, your devotional time, or wherever you've been convicted by the Word without making a change. Have specific goals in mind. What are you going to do differently? When are you going to do it? How often? How much? For whom?
Then pray for strength, courage, wisdom, and fervency of heart that will take God's Word seriously!
Father, help us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only!
