Be Careful What You Ask For
Title: Be Careful What You Ask For
Reading for August 25: Ezekiel 5-8
"The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, and they shall know that I am the LORD."
Ezekiel 7:27
Pharaoh asked the question, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice...?" (Exodus 5:2) It was a dangerous question. It was a challenge to God that was answered with ten deadly plagues. (One commentator called it a ten lesson correspondence course!) God answered Pharaoh's question. Pharaoh learned the hard way that the LORD is God.
Some today want to question God's existence and even make the statement that if God would reveal himself that they would believe in him. It may be that you are in this camp. You are asking in your heart, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him?"
Be careful what you ask for. God has revealed himself in creation and in his inspired Word. He has left evidence of his existence and you can discover this for yourself.
But for those who refuse to acknowledge God there are other more painful ways that he uses to humble us. If pride is keeping you from seeing God, the Lord can open your eyes the hard way.
Father, help us to see you more clearly.
