Why Some Reject God
Title: Why Some Reject God
Reading for September 2: Ezekiel 28-30
The word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord GOD:
"Because your heart is proud,
and you have said, 'I am a god,
I sit in the seat of the gods,
in the heart of the seas,'
yet you are but a man, and no god,
though you make your heart like the heart of a god--
you are indeed wiser than Daniel;
no secret is hidden from you;
by your wisdom and your understanding
you have made wealth for yourself,
and have gathered gold and silver
into your treasuries;
by your great wisdom in your trade
you have increased your wealth,
and your heart has become proud in your wealth...
Ezekiel 28:1-5
There is a simple reason why some reject the notion of God: THEY DON'T NEED HIM!
Or, at least, they don't think they need him. You see, they've convinced themselves that they've built their little empires all by themselves. They are self made. Self-sufficient. They feel like they don't need God.
What is God's response? Well, God has a way of exposing our weaknesses and frailty. He has brought down mighty kings before (see Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, etc.) and he will bring down our miniature kingdoms as well to teach us who is really in control.
Father, we confess our weakness, and thus our utter dependance on you. Help us to give you the thanks and praise you deserve for any good thing in our life, and to realize that without you we can do nothing!
